Short term medical plans can help bridge the gap if you are not able to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan for up to 90 days in a 12-month period. You can usually get coverage as soon as the next day after enrollment.
As of November 16, 2018, Washington Short Term Medical (STM) policy sales must be suspended during the Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment period (OEP). The 2022 ACA Open Enrollment period runs from November 1, 2021 to January 15, 2022.
In accordance with this rule, Washington insurers are not authorized to sell STM plans from November 1, 2021 through December 15, 2021 for an effective date in January 2022, or from December 16, 2021 through January 15, 2022 for effective dates in February 2022.
During this time, applications submitted for enrollment with effective dates outside the prohibitions listed above will be accepted.
